Dasysyrphus tricinctus- Horningsea

A widespread and fairly frequent, medium-sized hoverfly with very distinctive abdominal markings that are quite unlike any other British hoverfly. It is usually encountered in the vicinity of woodland and heathland. Adults fly from May to September with peaks in early summer (oftne visiting umbellifers) and then again in late summer (often visiting Heather, Devil’s-bit Scabious or Ivy).
